Managing Partner of Boyden Portugal since May 2006 and International Partner, he graduated from Instituto Superior Técnico with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He occupied top functions in the industrial sector from 1970 to 1976. In this period, he was a University Professor in Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, where he would become a Member of the Pedagogic and Scientific Committees of the Executive Board.

Throughout his career he held the position of Industrial Development Consultant for the United Nations, Chairman of the Fiscal Council of Quimigal, Chairman of the Advisory Councils of the Faculdade de Engenharia - Universidade Católica Portuguesa and of the Instituto de Gestão de Fundos de Capitalização da Segurança Social.

Thirty years ago Luís Alves Monteiro began working for Banco de Fomento Nacional, where he would eventually serve as Credit Director. He was responsible for the establishment of the Bank in Venezuela and Spain.

In BPI, he was a Credit General Director for SMEs, position he had already occupied in Borges & Irmão, Fonsecas & Burnay and Fomento Exterior and he held Executive functions in several companies.

He concluded the Advanced Topis of Bank Management program at Faculdade de Economia da Universidade Nova and approximately ten years ago completed the Strategic Management in Banking at INSEAD.

He was General Manager for Industry in the Ministry of Industry and Energy and for a period of seven years Secretary of State for Industry as part of the cabinets of Prof. Cavaco Silva. In more recent years, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hospital de Santa Maria (the largest hospital in Portugal) and, from 2004 onwards, he was a Member of the Board of Directors of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Caixa - Banca de Investimento and Chairman of Caixa Leasing and Factoring.

Luís Alves Monteiro is a former member of the Board of the Confederation of Portuguese Industry (CIP), position he held for two terms, and a Board Member of the Portuguese Association of Banks (APB).

He is an IST Advisory Council Member for Engineering and Industrial Management and Engineering Chamber Member within the Engineering and Industrial Management Specialty.
